How To Buy The Ideal Microwave Oven For the Kitchen

While setting up a kitchen, renovating it or when a new microwave oven is needed because the old one needs to be replaced, it is important to take some time to decide which microwave oven will be ideal for your kitchen. While it is easy for some who would prefer to walk into a store and pick up the most expensive one available, it might just be a waste and not utilized adequately. The economics of running a household involves buying the best product but using it to the fullest, so that nothing goes waste, be it space, functions or money spent. The market place for microwave would have any customer spoilt for choice, in terms of size, capacity, power consumption, functions and features and above all, price. Yet each one would fit in, and satisfy the exact requirements of a set of households, depending on their kitchen set up and cooking requirements. A few questions will help you realize what type of microwave you need to look for.

Your Requirements

  • The size of your kitchen. In a large kitchen a big microwave oven will fit in, but may dwarf a smaller kitchen.
  • The size of your family. If you have a small family, it is unlikely that you will place large bowls of food inside for cooking. So a smaller oven will suffice.
  • The kind of cooking you need to do- If you like cooking in the microwave oven, it makes sense to invest in an expensive model with multiple functions, like sensor cooking, auto-start, defrost, cook, bake, auto cook vegetables, meats and desserts according to the weight, and so on. These models are more expensive. If however, all that you need to do is defrost and heat, then a basic, low end microwave will be preferable since they are much cheaper.
  • Do you prefer combo ovens- Microwaves are available in combination with a grill or browning element and a convection oven. These serve as multipurpose ovens that are good for baking, grilling and elaborate cooking as well. But they are expensive and a little complicated to use than the basic models.
  • Is it easy to clean with removable trays- for people hard pressed for time, maintenance becomes an issue. An oven with trays that can be easily removed and cleaned is an advantage.
  • Brand preferences-Many people are partial to big brands because they feel the product is better. But they also come with higher price tags. If you need a functional gadget, you can choose any that looks appealing.
  • The price factor- when you set out to buy a microwave oven, do you have any price limit in mind? If yes, then your choice will depend on what is available in that price range.
  • How long do you want it to last-Are you one of those who wants to change all appliances every two-three years? If yes, then it is better to buy a reasonably priced one since quality and lasting duration and warranties do not matter.
  • The warranty factor- most microwave ovens give flawless service for a few years. But in one odd piece, there might be some manufacturing defect despite stringent quality tests. If you have had a bad experience with an appliance before, you might want one with a one year warranty period, for free replacement of parts or replacement of the oven.

Equipped with answers to all these questions, you can walk into any big store and you will surely find a microwave oven that suits all your requirements, and you will come back happier with your new oven.
